What is a Soufflé?

A Soufflé is an egg based dish which was first made in France around the 1800’s and the word soufflé means to blow or to puff in French. In fact this makes a lot of sense because soufflés are generally very puffy and fluffy, moreover, the mixture of eggs and dairy make soufflés very light and airy! Typically, a Soufflé is made by beating egg whites until stiff peaks form, while combining the stiff peaks with the custard mixture of egg yokes and milk. I made the soufflé above by just mixing eggs with milk. Further more, a soufflé can be sweet or savory such as the brunch soufflé such as the one one photographed above. In addition brunch soufflés can be made as a main course or desert and are a delightful treat.

What to pair with Brunch Soufflé?

Brunch Soufflé would be great with hash browns, breakfast potato’s, or sweet potato hash, and toast or would be great served alone. A Bellini or Mimosa would be a great drink to serve in addition to, or just plain old classic orange juice. If you are wondering what the heck is a Bellini? Bellini is a cocktail crafted with prosecco (sparkling wine) and peach puree, alternatively, a mimosa’s is prepared with mixture of prosecco, and orange juice.
