Leftover beef bones
2 large Carrots, or leftover carrot ends
1 onion or leftover onion skin and ends
Optional Salt
1 Tbsp. parsley
2 Cloves Garlic
1 Tbsp. Oregano
Water
Note you can add whatever herbs you have I usually add what I have on hand or what I think would taste good
In a large pot I put all the ingredients and cover with water leaving about an inch and a half.
Then bring to a boil and then simmer on the stove for at least 3 hours or more.
Strain the liquid then it is ready to use in recipes.
Sometimes the liquid has fat that accumulates on the top, you can strain this off or keep it.
I usually strain a little bit off.
How I use this Basic Beef Stock Recipe
Usually, I typically put my beef stock in Ziploc bags and store it in the freezer. You could use an ice cube tray also so that it melts easier. Having stock in the freezer at all times is so nice! You never know when a recipe might call for stock. You can use the same recipe to make chicken stock, you just need leftover chicken bones or whatever you have.
I love having stock on hand, as I mentioned above store bought brands are loaded with salt usually and I love being able to control how much processed stuff I am consuming. Food to me is important because you are what you eat, that may be another blog post but for the most part I try to be very conscious about what I am eating.
I use Stocks to boil my potatoes it just gives them an added element of flavor that makes a difference. When I have company over for dinner they always say that the mashed potatoes are so wonderful what is my secret? Well now you know! If you loved this recipe try my Instant Pot Short Ribs recipe.
