Summer is the season of doing! The heat and nice weather is fast approaching! If you’re thinking of upgrading the look of your home this might be your chance. This time is the best for any summer DIY home projects! Starting projects during this time won’t be interrupted and delayed by any inclement weather. Heeding off your projects earlier will give you an opportunity to handle any problems that may arise. As with any summer DIY home projects there can be issues that arise. Since it’s always a risk factor. There needs to be a ton of free time to entertain guests, and enjoy the beautiful season. Creating new energy in your home and summer will be perfect for freshening things up.

INSPECT AND PAINT
The outside of your home is perhaps the most important because it is exposed to the outside elements. It protects against the elements entering your home. It may sound like a no brainer but sometimes it is one of those things that gets put off. Every summer you should inspect your home to make sure you can’t find any leaks or critters. Look for any issues that could potentially become larger issues.
Fresh paint doesn’t just make your home look great — it’s also a protective skin against damaging UV light and moisture. I love Valspar for paint! If you can not splurge for Valspar the habitat for humanity usually has plenty of paint for super affordable prices. It is also a great place to get tile. I have also seen some amazing deals on slabs of granite and other stone for countertops.
GUTTERS
The gutters pull water away from your foundation and away from your home. Having backed up gutters can create bigger problems over time. So the moral of the story is to clean your gutters! The overflow of water could lead to rotten fascia boards. Allowing pooling water can cause foundation, and basement leaks. Concrete can actually rot over time as well, so you want to keep water away from your home.
BUILD A GREENHOUSE
Greenhouses are generally for protecting crops from the uncontrollable climate and seasons. Plants are in need of moisture and humidity for them to grow properly. Greenhouses shield against bugs and diseases that may halt the development of your plants.
As long as there is good ventilation in the greenhouse, it will be a perfect home for your plants. You can easily make a greenhouse from vintage windows. There are plenty of plans out there to create your dream greenhouse. Essentially, you want to build a frame and attach the vintage windows to the frame. With its glass walls and roof, your vegetable and tropical flowers will have a safe place to stay. Your plants will be nice and warm even in colder weather conditions. With its clear roof, the sunlight will peak through and give the plants their needed warmth. Its structure can range from small to large sizes. On to more summer DIY home projects!
BUILD A POOL OR POND
If you’re up to splurging a little bit, you can give your backyard an update by installing an outside pool. Especially if you have the space for it, you can do an above or below ground pool or pond. To create a serene and beautiful environment, you can upgrade your space by trying out landscaping.
If I had a lot of property, I would dig a large hole and get a very large Intex pool. Then I would build a beautiful deck around it. Make sure if you do build a pool, that you create a fence around it. Pools are an attractive nuisance unfortunately. Your city might have rules and regulations you need to follow as well before taking on a project like this. Maybe leave this one to the professionals…
Another great option for upgrading your space is to purchase a lounge set to enjoy your outdoor space.
UPGRADE YOUR KITCHEN
Considering that the kitchen is the one place that is most often used, renovating it is a great idea. If you are planning on eventually selling your home, the kitchen is the first area new home buyers look at. It is the first impression of a home and if your kitchen is not kept up… what does it say about the rest of the home.
When remodeling your kitchen, you will have the opportunity to replace your old appliances with newly updated ones. Replacing old machines with energy saving ones that can potentially help with decreasing your utility bill. You even have the chance to fix your light and electric fixtures to assure safety.
The best part about giving your kitchen a makeover is that you can create more storage space. Thus maximize more of the kitchen area and you can basically customize the vibe of your space. We had old wooden kitchen cabinet doors that my sweeties grandfather had built. Since they were durable and had sentimental value to us. I gave them a new look by simply adding, stain, trim, and painting them.
The finished project is beautiful! We also added a white tile backsplash. I think the total cost of the wood was about $300 because we used fancier trim. It is actually two pieces of wood glued with gorilla glue. For a less expensive option you could use long wooden rulers but make sure there is no medal. Furthermore, tile is a great option for inexpensive countertops and floors. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money or simply don’t have the extra cash.
FLOORING
For our flooring we used Shaw. It is a link together laminate flooring. I was able to do our kitchen in a day. The hardest part was cutting the pieces to fit properly. However, once I started it was fairly easy but make sure you buy more than what you need! If you make a mistake it can cost you in materials. In the middle of our project the laminate flooring was discontinued. I had to quickly buy what we needed and I had to have it shipped to finish the project. It didn’t ship well and a lot of the pieces came broken. Moral of the story; buy what you need all at once! It would have been a nightmare to not have been able to finish the project.
TAKEAWAY
Having upgrades would really require you to spend money, but home renovations are essentially a good investment. These projects would require lots of time and effort. It is important to be hands-on to implement your ideas to achieve the best outcome.
